Kona Coffee: Pele Plantations

Pele Plantations, located in Honaunau, Hawaii, sells 100% genuine Kona coffee. Kona coffee only grows in this particular region of Hawaii--you won't find Kona coffee anywhere else in the world! Pele Plantations offers coffee from various estates. The coffee roasted here meets the standards of even the pickiest cupper!

Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park

As of our visit, Mt. Kilauea was errupting. Lava had filled the tubes, and flown out to sea where you could see 2000 degree (F) lava "exploding" as it hit 70 degree (F) ocean water. Depending on where the lava is flowing, you might get a chance to see live lava--up close and personal. Call the park for current erruption updates.

Kilauea Military Camp

If you are in the military, you are in luck. The Kilauea military camp has cheap rates on cabins INSIDE the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park! Trust me, it's a good deal.

Guidebook: Big Island Revealed (Wizard Publications)

Unless you live on the Big Island, the only way to fully experience this island are to bring along a decent guide book. Big Island Revealed (by Andrew Doughty who has lived in Hawaii for years) explores the best of the best--and is brutally honest. The detailed maps reveal secrets you won't otherwise find.

Harper Car and Truck Rental

If you want to experience the extremes of Hawai'i, you need a 4WD vehicle. Harper lets you take their 4-wheel drive vehicles up to the top of Mauna Kea. We even took ours to the Green Sand Beach on South Point Road....and a little past that. It costs a bit more than your standard rental, but you'll be glad you sprung for a 4WD. Getting into Waimea Valley requires a 4WD, also. We even drove our 4WD through Kaumana Caves. Just kidding!
